The Need for Representation
Black women currently represent a mere 3% of the medical field. Many Black girls dream of being doctors, but their dream is often deferred due to a lack of access, guidance, and resources. Melanated Med is here to empower the next generation of Black women in Medicine. We aim to do this by sharing the stories and experiences of the MelanatedMeds paving the way. We also strive to provide a space for mentorship networks, sharing helpful resources, and guidance along the way.
Pre-Med Oluwaseun Adebagbo, Stanford University '18, conducted interviews of Black female doctors after she herself struggled during her journey as a pre-med student. Check out her documentary chronicling their stories!
